It is one the commonest procedures in preventive dentistry. It is usually an integral part of regular check and clean visit.

Scaling is the mechanical removal of plaque and tartar (calculus) that has built up on teeth. But it leaves the tooth surface rough and easy for plaque build-up. We then need to polish the teeth surfaces to make them smoother.

Regular scaling and polishing maintain gum health preventing gum recession and disease. Professional cleaning is a must even after thorough teeth cleaning habits at home as there are few areas a tooth brush and a floss may not reach affectively.
